BENTO
Adv. Design Studio 2
12 Weeks
Bento is a MODULAR,
multi-generational
home with the intent
to incrementally
grow and change as
the family within
evolves.
The task of creating
a home for multiple
generations is one
that is uncommon
within the American
society. While the
problem continues
to be a mystery
surrounding our
local area, it is
almost assumed as
the only form of
living within Asian
cultures. Taking
hints from this
fact in reference
to principle and
precedent, one
can deduce that
multi-generational
housing can find
truth within the
built environment
if it is conducted
with the principles
of flexibility and
feasibility while
preserving longevity
and identity.
THE PROJECT DISPLAYS
THREE DIFFERENT
PERIODS THAT A
FAMILY MIGHT UNDERGO
AS THEY GROW AND
DIMINISH IN BOTH
PEOPLE AND SPACES
THAT ARE NEEDED
TO SUPPORT THOSE
MEMBERS.
THE IDEAS FORMULATED
DURING THE PERIOD OF
THE PROJECT FURTHER
SUPPORTED THE DESIGN
RESEARCH STUDIO AS A
STARTING POINT FOR
THE FINAL DEGREE
PROJECT, “WITHIN THE
CITY, BEYOND THE
SOUTH.”
