Abstract
Geometries
The project sought
to explore the many
different elements
within design such
as rhythm and datum
through an abstract
geometry that was
asymmetrically
composed. The form
was to be both hand
drawn and modeled.
The drawings
included a series
of elevations and
sections with a plan
being placed within
an exploded axon.
These drawings then
informed a model
that was to be built
with 1/8” or 1/16”
basswood materials
that can ultimately
fit within a 10 inch
by 10 inch cube.
Gold + Joules
Gold and Joules was
the first of two
projects developed
within the advanced
design studio 1
course that tasks
the designer to
create a space that
houses an electrical
substation that
appreciates the
beauty in the
mundane.
The constraints
within the hand
drawn project asks
each student to take
three mat-boards and
layer any and all
ideas, thoughts, and
sketches on these
boards alone. as the
board fills with
graphite, it would
then be erased and
drawn on repeatedly
until a final design
and composition
was created. Named
as the palimpsest
project, the
ultimate goal of
the project was to
see the previous
iterations of the
project show through
as the texture
in the background
of the final
composition.
